Mosaic of
'Death of Adonis'
The mosaics
Carranque Archaeological Park are of Roman origin. They belong to the fourth
century D.C.
One of the
best preserved mosaics and more peculiar is the death of Adonis. It is in the
room called "triclinium" which is the dining in ancient Rome. In the
first archaeological investigations call this room the "Oecus"
referring to a kind of release, but the latest studies and research have
changed the use of the facility, and became "triclinium" as mentioned
above.
According
to this myth Mars was the couple "official" of the goddess Venus,
this was very amorous, he noticed a handsome young man named Adonis, Mars
notices this infatuation and jealousy sends a boar to fight the young Adonis
and death.
In
the mosaic displayed this fight scene with this young boar.
Behind the
young is reflected a tree, which is believed to be the myrrh tree which Adonis
was born. It is also reflected under the heading boar spear, symbolizing the
death of the young man at the foot of the anemone flower (red flower that
springs to drop the blood of Adonis by the boar fight against.) Is also
reflected in the mosaic two dogs and wildlife (hares, partridges and the
hindquarters of a boar) the environment at that time and the present.
